Mark Zuckerberg wants Facebook to answer users’ questions.
It is anticipated the Facebook CEO will, at some point, announce an engine — with a twist — to rival search king Google.
Zuckerberg said he believes engines will evolve to supply a question-and-answer service for users.
Facebook members will type in more than a keyword and ask for
something pertinent in return, he told an audience at a conference in
San Francisco Sept. 11, 2012.
“I have a specific question; answer this question for me,” he said.
“Facebook is well-positioned to answer questions, such as what type of
sushi restaurant have my friends gone to during the past six months in
New York, and liked?”
Facebook handles one billion inquiries each day without trying,
Zuckerberg said. The bulk of queries are users trying to find other
people, but there is a sizeable share of searches for brand pages and
apps.
While Zuckerberg did not give a time frame for the search engine
project, it is thought Facebook could offer the service by the end of
the year.
