Google Tag Manager, a free tool that consolidates website tags with a single snippet of code, allows marketers to manage everything from a web interface.
“You can add and update your own tags, with just a few clicks, whenever you want, without bugging the IT folks or rewriting site code,” said Product Manager Laura Holmes in a blog post Oct. 2. “It gives marketers greater flexibility, and lets webmasters focus on other important tasks.”
Tag Manager features include:
- Asynchronous tag load — allows tags to “fire faster without getting in each other’s way, and without slowing down the user-visible part of the page.”
- Easy-to-use tag templates allow marketers to add tags with Google’s web interface. It also offers support for custom tags.
- Preview mode allows the users to check proposed changes before applying them. Other error-prevention tools include the Debug Console and Version History, which ensures new tags won’t break the site.
- User permissions and multi-account ability enables sizeable teams and agencies and clients to work together with necessary levels of access.
