WifiInfoView; Find out which nearby WiFi network has the most signal strength.

Ever wondered which of the WIFI connections available to you has the most signal strength? The number of visible bars gives some indication, but does not tell the whole story. What you need is WifiInfoView, a free desktop application that can quickly compare the signal strength and various other parameters of the WIFI networks in range.

WifiInfoView is a free to use Windows application. It does not need to be installed; you only need to run the EXE file contained within the downloaded archive. One the application is run, a list of all in-range WIFI networks is populated. Against the names of these networks you can view various network properties such as MAC address, signal quality, frequency, channel of operation, and more. Clicking on a particular network name shows its properties in the bottom pane.

If you are looking for a particular network in a long list of Wi-Fi networks, you can simply use the find feature.
WifiInfoView 2
The table can be summarized to view properties against each channel of information. This can help you determine which channel is the strongest for WIFI operation in your area.
WifiInfoView 3
Various summary modes can be viewed by entering the Options menu in the top toolbar.

In summary, WifiInfoView is a highly useful app for those who rely on public WIFI networks. Before connecting to any network, check this app to find out more information on which WIFI network can serve you best. It will save you the time you otherwise would have spent experimenting with and changing networks, and obviously helps you get the best internet browsing experience.

Best application for iPad

1. Real Racing 2 HD

If you're looking for the ultimate in mobile 3D racing games, Real Racing 2 HD delivers with beautiful, fluid, realistic graphics. Two new gyroscope-based steering methods makes hugging those curves even easier, since you don't have to touch the iPad's screen to steer.

2. Jenga HD
The nailbiter coffee-table block-building game of your youth breaks into the next dimension on the iPad 2. Full gyroscope support means you can simply move the tablet around to get various perspectives on the block pile. For example, placing the iPad parallel to the ground gives you a top-down birdseye view you can't get otherwise. In the iPhone version (sans gyroscope support), you need to flick the screen to move around the board. It really brings a new dimension to the already-fun game.

3. Google Earth

The awesome Google Earth is another app that really showcases the iPad 2's processing and graphics power. The app is visually stunning, moving around is fast and seamless, and you rarely have to wait for a map to redraw. Here's hoping Google adds gyroscope support soon.

4. Flipboard
This gorgeous, graphics-intensive, just-for-the Web "magazine" that lets you flip through your news and social media was no slouch on the first-gen iPad, and performance is even better on the iPad 2.

5. GarageBand

This excellent Mac program translates extremely well to the iPad and is true testament to how much iOS has matured—it's a desktop-class app running on a mobile device. It also showcases the new tablet's processing power.
For a closer look, check out our Hands-On GarageBand video.

6. iMovie
Apple's own desktop video-editing app, iMovie, goes mobile with a new iPad version. The easy-to-use app makes good use of the tablet's touch-screen interface, and lets you clip, add photos, music, themes, and more to the video you capture right on the iPad 2.

7. WebEx

If you need to work, but don't want to be tethered to your desk, this virtual meeting app offers two-way video conferencing that uses the iPad's front-facing camera, but just like with FaceTime, you need to be on a Wi-Fi network to use it.

8. Twittelator
Currently, Twittelator is the only Twitter client that lets you record audio and video, and take photos with the iPad 2's cameras, and use them to help illustrate your tweets.

9. Incredibooth
If the sheer fun of Apple's own preloaded Photo Booth isn't enough for you, Incredibooth turns your iPad into, well, a photo booth. Four lens filters let you create different image styles, and after you pose for your close-up in front of the iPad's front-facing camera, you have a photo strip you can either trash, share on Facebook, or e-mail to your friends.

10. Pocketbooth HD

A pumped-up version of Incredibooth, Pocketbooth HD lets you use either of the iPad 2's cameras to shoot, and offers a lot more settings to tinker with. 'Send to Twitter' and 'Print' are additional sharing options you don't get with Incredibooth.

Free Video Editing Software

There are many free video editing software programs available for download today, but not all of them are good. Many programs simply don't do what the manufacturers say that they will do, and others don't provide enough - or any support.
Of course, most free software does not include the same level or quality of support that you would expect to find with software that you purchase.
While you should remember that you get what you pay for, there really is some good free video editing software available. Here are five that we have found:

Microsoft Movie Maker
Already installed on newer computers that are running Windows XP, Movie Maker has drag and drop features to make creating and editing your movie easier. Microsoft has many add-ons for this software, and upgrades are available through the website. This is one of the best free video editing software programs available.
Apple iMovie is comparable to Windows Movie Maker, but Apple iMovie is used on the MAC operating system. Apple iMovie has many advanced features and add-ons. Unfortunately, the software is only free if you buy a new MAC system. If you want the software without buying the system, it is available for purchase. One of the best free video editing programs available for MAC users.
Avid FreeDV is available for both Windows and MAC operating systems, and includes basic video and audio editing capabilities, as well as up to two streams of real-time effects. On the whole, a solid video editing program that is slightly hard to use, but very powerful once you learn its ins and outs.
Wax is a high performance and flexible free video editing software program. It
started out as a college project, and has since grown. Wax is good for both
home users and professionals. It can be used as a stand-alone application, or
as a plug-in to other video editors. The software also features unlimited video and audio tracks with top-down compositing.
Zwei-Stein is great free video editing software, but the user interface is
very technical. It is full featured, offering many different effects. It can
edit up to 256 video, audio, and still image clips. There are up to 64 effects, which can be chained serially. An interesting program that's worth looking at.
Note:

Microsoft Movie Maker for Windows users, and Apple iMovie for MAC users are probably the two easiest to use free video editing software programs available. Both of the products will allow you to do what you want to do with your videos. However, trying out the others, you may find that you are able to add more effects and such to your videos as well. Of all the available programs out there, these are the top five free video editing software programs available.

Best Software Application for Blackberry

AP Mobile News
The Associated Press; bb.apnews.com
Just like its brethren on other mobile platforms, this news program gives you complete, flexible access to local, national and international news. On top of giving you up-to-the-minute news, the latest version of this app lets you send stories to Facebook or your friends, read stories off-line, or watch news videos. If you're looking for multiple news sources, try Viigo below, but AP can satisfy any needy news junkie. Download AP Mobile News from the Web site above.

BBNotePad
Qin;
BBNotePad is a big step up from the built-in BlackBerry notepad. It features three different font sizes, allows you to save a file as .txt so you can open it directly on your computer, and lets you send memos or notes using Bluetooth to other handheld devices. Download BBNotePad by using the link above.

Bloomberg Mobile

Bloomberg LP; m.bloomberg.com
BlackBerries have a lot of hard-core, costly options for serious stock gurus, but Bloomberg is the best free business app. It provides news, stock quotes, company descriptions, a customized list of stocks, and market trends. It's also pretty easy to use, considering the amount of data it's throwing at you. Bloomberg Mobile is available from BlackBerry App World.

 BOLT
Bitstream; www.boltbrowser.com
The built-in BlackBerry browser is a mess. To the rescue rides BOLT, a fast, high-quality browser that downloads pages which actually look like desktop Web pages. BOLT comes with all the browser usuals, such as bookmarks and an RSS reader, but its most important attribute is desktop fidelity - pages look really good in this browser, even including some Flash content. It's a huge step up from the BlackBerry browser. To download BOLT, go to www.boltbrowser.com.

Facebook

Research in Motion; www.blackberry.com
The latest Facebook app transforms your BlackBerry into a miniature version of the Facebook desktop site, sans add-in apps. The Highlights feature works like your news feed, letting you view recent status updates, photo uploads, comments, and wall posts without having to dive into the app's various menu icons. You can upload or tag photos, check out photos, and add comments to photos or news items. This is a strong, successful transformation of Facebook into a useful mobile app. Facebook is available in BlackBerry App World.

FlashLight 1.0.2

App Pro Shop; No Web site
There are many free flashlight apps to pick from, but we choose FlashLight by App Pro Shop. It's extremely easy to use, and the light is bright. You can adjust both the color and brightness of the light to your taste, too; according to the manufacturer, different colors of light work better in different situations. Green, for instance, won't spook the fish. FlashLight is available from BlackBerry App World.

Gmail

Google; m.google.com/a/
Hey, wait a minute - why do you need to run an app to get e-mail on a BlackBerry? Because you get many more features that way. Reading Gmail through the built-in BlackBerry client is a pretty basic experience. Loading the Gmail app, you get access to your contact list, sent and archived mail, labels and stars. It looks like Gmail, too. You can download the Gmail app from the Web site above. If you're looking for a better Gmail experience within the existing BlackBerry email app, try RIM's relatively-new Gmail plug-in, downloadable at http://na.blackberry.com/eng/devices/features/communication/gmail.jsp?.

Google Maps

Google; m.google.com/maps
It's GPS navigation for free; what's not to love? Google's BlackBerry app offers driving, transit and walking directions (albeit without voice prompts) for businesses and street addresses, with real-time traffic updates that help you steer around congested areas. The new Layers feature lets you view various kinds of information - for instance, Wikipedia entries - overlaid on a map, while Latitude tells you where your friends are. If you ever leave the house, this app is a must-have. Go to the Web address above to get Google Maps.

Ka-Glom
Magmic; www.magmic.com
It's hard to find a good free game for BlackBerries that works on the latest devices. This puzzle game is the best of the bunch. It's a bit of a Tetris clone, but with the bonus of exploding chain reactions between different kinds of falling blocks- and who doesn't like exploding chain reactions? If you're sick of BrickBreaker and Word Mole, this is another quick, colorful, casual game that will give you something immersive and different. Ka-Glom is available from BlackBerry App World.

Opera Mini
Opera Software; mini.opera.com
Where BOLT (see above) focuses on fidelity, Opera Mini goes for speed. Especially good on lower-resolution BlackBerries like the Curve, Opera Mini compresses pages so they transfer more quickly, and reformats them so they're readable on small screens without zooming in and out. If you want to, you can also look at a desktop view of the page. The latest version, 5.0, adds tabs and a graphical bookmarks page. Download Opera Mini from the Web site above.
